Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. ~ Harold R. McAlindon
Easter Seals West Alabama is doing just that…leaving a trail for others to follow. Even through economic hardships, we have pulled together to continue to offer services to more than 1,963 adults and children with disabilities in 2009. We found new ways to collaborate with sister facilities in order to share resources, which improved our information management system and created streamlined tracking for our service division.
Our Outpatient therapy program continues to see success and has expanded both In-house and with the patients being served at Bryce Hospital, Harper Geriatric Center and Tuscaloosa City Schools. Our OT Kids Program has once again expanded its summer program by reaching out to local schools and similar non-profits to assist with raising awareness. Our Pediatric Program has also seen growth that has allowed us to add physical therapy to the list of services we offer to children.
Our Adult Vocational Program has definitely met challenges with these tumultuous economic times however, our highly dedicated staff combined with our Alabama Department of Rehabilitation services partnership, has allowed us to successfully continue placing individuals with disabilities into competitive employment.
With every challenge we overcame, an opportunity to show our strength was created. We continue to build relationships with schools, civic groups, city officials, business leaders and most importantly our Easter Seals families. We have added manpower to our Marketing Department and they are dedicated to finding and securing new sources of revenue for our programs. We hear success stories daily from our consumers and it gives us the hope and drive we need to continue to find new ways to offer services to adults and children with disabilities.
