Easter Seals West Alabama Vocational Program

Referrals to the Vocational Division are received from the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services. After referrals are received, counselors are assigned to initiate requested services. If consumers are referred for an evaluation, an individual plan is developed and appropriate tests are administered to answer referral questions. This process could take one day or up to two weeks if situational assessments are needed. The consumer’s program is ended and reports written when the referral questions are answered.
For services other than evaluation, counselors are assigned to make initial contact and discuss the facility program with the consumer. Barriers to employment are identified and a plan developed to remove these barriers before placement occurs. Job Readiness classes enhance employability through resume’ development, training in completing job applications, and interviewing techniques. The consumer then enters the job placement phase of the program. After finding employment, the consumer can receive job coaching if needed. Follow-up on the job continues for a period of 90 days to ensure success.
